The Advanced Open Water Diver Certification (AOW) could have been called The Full Recreational Diver Rating. Your Open Water Diver Certification got you in the door. The AOW certification will extend your range to the limits of recreational diving.
The AOW certification gives you two major skill sets that compliment each other and give you a powerful confidence boost: deep diving skills and underwater navigation skills. Deep diving skills extend your range and give you access to artifacts like wrecks that are better preserved at depth where there is less oxidation due to the lower levels of oxygen. Deep diving skills also give you access to more parts of a canyon, wall, blue hole, and many others. And while you’re doing all this, your underwater navigation skills will allow you to maintain a clear spatial orientation throughout your dive.
You’ll need to complete three other adventure dives of your choice taken from any one of the specialty certifications. As you do, you’ll develop more skills, discover new ways to dive, and grow to another level of diving.
All dives count toward their respective specialty certifications.
